Richest Square Mile on Earth

In 1859, John Gregory discovered The Gregory Lode in a gulch near Central City, Colorado. It came to be known as The Richest Square Mile on Earth. More than $75 million in gold was taken from the mines there.

Cheeseburger Birthplace

In 1935, Louis Ballast of Denver, Colorado, was granted a trademark for the name of cheeseburger. The cheeseburger itself was apparently first developed by a restaurant chef in Pasadena, California.
