Iowa Fun Vacation Facts

Bridges of Madison County

The bridges of Madison County were made famous by the bestselling novel and the top-rated movie. In the movie, the following house was featured as Francesca's House. Prior to the movie, the late 1800s homestead had been abandoned for more than 35 years. The movie people restored the house to make the movie.

Address: Francesca's House, 3271 130th Street, Cumming, Iowa; 515-981-5268.

For the bridges of Madison County, stop by the Madison County Chamber of Commerce offices for a map of the bridges. The Roseman Bridge featured above is the bridge where Francesca left the note for Robert Kincaid inviting him to dinner. Notes are still left on the bridge most every day.

Note that Winterset is also the birthplace of John Wayne (his birth home is at 216 S. Second Street in Winterset).

Address: Madison County Chamber of Commerce, 73 W. Jefferson Street, Winterset, Iowa 50273; 515-462-1185; 800-298-6119.
