In 1764, South Carolina became the first colony to export cotton to England.

In 1773, the first black Baptist Church was established at Silver Bluff.
The Charleston Chamber of Commerce became the first city chamber of commerce in the U.S. in 1773.
In 1774, the South Carolina Price Current was published in Charleston as the first business publication in America.
On July 12, 1775, the first overt act of the American Revolution occurred at Fort Charlotte, South Carolina. This
was the first British property seized by the Revolutionary forces.
The first time a British flag was taken down and replaced by an American flag was in Charleston in 1775.
