Alabama

Whistle Stop Cafe, 1906 1st Avenue N, Irondale AL 35210-1102; 205-956-5258. The setting for the novel and movie Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe.


Arizona

Old Tucson Studios; 520-883-0100. The setting for many movies.


California

Hinkley, California The movie Erin Brockovich, starring Julia Roberts, was based on real-life events that took place in Hinckley.

Mariposa County Here are a few of the films that have been made in this county: The Caine Mutiny, Forever Darling, Giant of Thunder Mountain, Last of the Mohicans, The Long, Long Trailer, Maverick, Mountain Men, Radio Flyer, Sacred Ground, Star Trek, 36 Hours, and Warpath.

Monterey County They have published a movie map to Monterey County featuring the 190 movies show there.

Florida

Seaside, Florida The Truman Show starring Jim Carrey was filmed in Seaside.


Georgia

Juliette, Georgia The movie Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe was filmed at the Whistle Stop Cafe in Juliette, Georgia.


Indiana

Milan, Indiana The victory of the 161-student school in the Indiana state basketball championships in 1954 was the inspiration for the movie, Hoosiers.


Iowa

Francesca's House, Jim and Barb Bell; 641-981-5268. The setting for the movie, Bridges of Madison County, starring Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep.

Madison County Chamber of Commerce, 73 Jefferson, Winterset IA 50273; 515-462-1185; 800-298-6119. The bridges of Madison County starred in the movie of the same name.


Maine

Maryland

Fair Hill Nature & Environmental Center, 375 Fair Hill Drive, Elkton MD 21921; 410-398-1246. Formerly featured a set from Oprah Winfrey's Beloved movie.


Maryvale, 11300 Falls Road, Brooklandville MD 21022; 410-252-3528. Used as a location in the 1997 Clint Eastwood film Absolute Power.


Nebraska

Boys Town, 137th & W Dodge Road, Omaha NE 68184; 800-625-1400. Email: visitorsc@boystown.org. The movie Boys Town with Spencer Tracy was based on this organization.


New Hampshire

Squam Lake, Squam Lake Chamber of Commerce, P O Box 665, Ashland NH 03217-0665; 603-968-4494; Fax: 603-968-2139. Location shots for On Golden Pond, starring Henry Fonda, Katherine Hepburn, and Jane Fonda.


New Mexico

Truchas, New Mexico The setting for the movie, The Milagro Beanfield War.


North Carolina

Duke University The wedding scene between Natalie Wood and Christopher Walken in Brainstorm was filmed in the Sarah P. Duke Gardens. A few other scenes were filmed in, on, or around the Duke Chapel. Another important scene was filmed at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

Durham, North Carolina. Primary location for the movie, Bull Durham. The subject of the 1950 movie, Brightleaf, starring Gary Cooper and Lauren Bacall. The Handmaid's Tale was filmed in downtown Durham and Duke University. Other movies: The Program, Getting In, A Friendly Suit, Kiss the Girls, Billy Bathgate, Bandwagon, and Chesterfield.

Forest Hills, a section of Durham, filled in as Boston, Massachusetts, for the film, Once Around.

North Carolina Central University, southeast Durham, North Carolina. Location for The White Girl and Weed.

Research Triangle Park, Burroughs Campus, in southeast Durham, North Carolina. Filming location for Brainstorm, starring Natalie Wood, Christopher Walken, and Cliff Robertson.

Wilmington, North Carolina, Cape Fear Coast Visitors Bureau, 24 North 3rd Street, Wilmington NC 28401; 910-341-4030; 800-222-4757. Call them for a self-guide tour to locations that have appeared in the Dawson's Creek TV show.

University of North Carolina at Wilmington, 601 S College Road, Wilmington NC 28403; 910-962-3243; 800-228-5571. Its campus appears regularly as Capeside High in the Dawson's Creek TV series.


Texas

Archer City, Archer City Chamber of Commerce, 201 S Center, Archer City TX 76351; 940-574-2489. Site of two movies based on Larry McMurtry's novels, The Last Picture Show and Texasville.


Washington

Mount Baker, Washington. Call of the Wild was filmed here.


Canadian

British Columbia has been the filming location for many movies set elsewhere, including Little Women, "A" The Scarlet Letter, Alaska, and others. Also the following movies: Excess Baggage, Gen-X, Bird on a Wire, Smart Alec, and Far from Home.

Okanagan, British Columbia Filming location for Clan of the Cave Bear, American Boyfriends, My American Cousin, Snow Falling on Cedars, and The Orchard Children.

Surrey, British Columbia Location for many TV shows including Viper, Sliders, X-Files, Stargate SGI, The Outer Limits, Poltergeist: The Legacy, etc.


International

Haddon Hall, northern England The 1998 movie Elizabeth was primarily filmed here.

Note: The British Tourist Authority (800-462-2748) publishes a movie map that shows the locations of the country's major films and TV serials.
